Simon joined Transform York just over a year ago after realising he’d fallen into a rut.
Life had become more sedentary, movement felt harder, and he could feel himself getting bigger, less fit, and less capable. Rather than accepting that as “just getting older”, Simon decided he wanted to change the direction he was heading in.
He didn’t want to age on the sofa — he wanted to age well.
The Challenge
Before starting at Transform, Simon felt stuck.
- Getting bigger and less mobile
- Low energy
- Feeling tired and breathless
- Struggling to stay focused
- Concerned about how he’d feel as he got older
Big commercial gyms weren’t the answer either. Large groups made it hard for him to feel comfortable or involved — he felt like just another number.
Why He Nearly Didn’t Start
One of Simon’s biggest hesitations was the environment.
He doesn’t enjoy large groups and busy gyms where it’s difficult to ask questions or get support. That’s why Transform’s small group training stood out.
With a maximum of nine people per session, Simon knew he’d be able to:
- Ask questions easily
- Get feedback straight away
- Feel supported rather than lost
That reassurance made all the difference.
The Turning Point
Once Simon got started, consistency followed.
The structure was simple:
- Book sessions easily through the app
- Train when it suited him
- Follow a clear, strength-based programme
Simon now trains three times a week, mainly focusing on strength, and knowing a trainer is always there to answer questions made everything feel accessible and stress-free.
“If I’m not sure about anything, I can just shout out and get the answer straight away.”
The Results
Over the past year, Simon has seen steady, meaningful improvements:
Stronger and fitter
More energy day to day
Less tired and breathless
Improved focus and concentration
Better performance at work
Feeling healthier overall
One of the biggest changes has been mental clarity.
“I don’t lose concentration as easily as I used to — I feel more focused, especially at work.”
This wasn’t about quick fixes — it was about building habits and strength that support real life.
